ALSM at Home
ALSM at Home provides in-home care services to those who need help with daily living. Our trained caregivers provide the assistance that allows loved ones to remain independent in their own homes. Services are available in Blair and Somerset counties and select areas of Cambria County. ALSM at Home is funded in part by the respective County Agencies on Aging. Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year from one hour to around the clock.
ALSM at Home, formerly Community Support Services, has been operating in Blair County since 1992, Cambria County since 1993 and Somerset County since 1994. We are the only faith-based not-for-profit provider of in-home care in our service areas.
ALSM at Home establishes an individualized care plan for each participant.
The in-home care plan can include:
- Meal preparation, light housekeeping and laundry
- Personal care, including bathing, grooming and dressing
- Available to accompany participant to doctors’ appointments
- Grocery shopping, prescription pick-up and general errands
- Medication reminders
- Companionship, including overnight and weekend stays
- Assistance in locating additional resources to help manage care needs
- Respite for family caregivers
Home management assistance can include:
- Sorting and organizing mail
- Assisting in paying bills

In-home care through ALSM at Home can be scheduled according to your needs... Our team members have been screened to meet ALSM’s high standards of employment. They are certified in basic first aid and CPR and have been trained by registered nurses to provide personal care. All team members receive a minimum of 40 hours of training. They are certified in CPR/First Aid. All team members have criminal history clearances and a medical evaluation at time of employment as well as an annual tuberculosis (TB) screening. All are monitored on a regular basis by supervisory and nursing staff.
We work with our team members and you to develop a schedule that offers as much consistency in caregivers as possible. We know that often times, relationships are formed and try to accommodate participants preferences.
Companion Plus Option...
If you don't require personal care...
ALSM at Home’s Companion Plus program provides in home supportive services such as light housekeeping, errand services, companionship or other home management tasks. Our home care aides can transport and accompany clients to doctors' appointments or travel with them on public transportation.
The cost for ALSM at Home services varies per person based upon the number of and length of visits. The services are customized to each participant based upon their individual situation and need.
Please contact us for information specific to your needs. Services can be paid for privately or may be subsidized by the local area agency on aging (Blair County - Blair Senior Services, Cambria County - Cambria County Area Agency on Aging, Somerset County - Area Agency of Aging of Somerset County. Assistance may also be available through the PA Department of Aging Waiver Program or Veterans Administration, depending on eligibility. We can help you apply for assistance. Some private insurance companies provide reimbursement to families.Services are billed monthly for the preceding month's services.
If additional assistance is needed, such as if you would like more socialization with others, opportunity to participate in activities and have access to nursing services, we can arrange enrollment in one of our Senior Daily Living Centers for care throughout the day. If your doctor decides you need additional assistance, we can provide help with personal care or skilled nursing at one of our three campuses: The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, The Lutheran Home at Johnstown and The Oaks at Pleasant Gap.
